Yuko Miyauchi

Yuko Miyauchi has research interest and experience in the bioarchaeology of non-adults in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East region. After obtaining BA and MA in Archaeology from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, she is currently a PhD student studying human bioarchaeology at the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center of The Cyprus Institute under the supervision of Dr Kirsi Lorentz, with full scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).

Yuko has participated in archaeological excavations in Japan, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraqi Kurdistan, and Cyprus from the paleolithic to the Iron age. She and Dr Lorentz are now in collaboration with an international joint excavation project at Yasin Tepe (Iraqi-Kurdistan) lead by Dr Shinichi Nishiyama from Chubu University, Japan, in which she is the main field bioarchaeologist.

During her study in Cyprus, she has gained experience in the application of Synchrotron Radiation enabled research in human bioarchaeology by participating in projects at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, France), Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME, Jordan), and Swiss Light Source (SLS) at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI, Switzerland) as a team member of Dr Lorentz.
