Dilek Ozkan Pantazis is currently MSCA Post-Doctoral Research fellow at Science and Technology in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (STARC), the Cyprus Institute (CyI) with their project SEABORD, funded by the EU as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, 2022. Previously, she held positions as Academic Fellow at the Research Center of Humanities (RCH) in Athens (2023), and Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Balkan, Slavic, and Oriental Studies, University of Macedonia in (2019-2023). She was also a Visiting Scholar at the University of Graz, Center for Southeast European Studies (2020-2021), and a Visiting Academic Scholar at the University of Oxford, Faculty of Oriental Studies (2016-2017). She obtained her PhD from the University of Athens, focusing on the first Ottoman-Greek borders in the borderland of Thessaly and Ottoman modernization (2016). Additionally, she holds an MA in History from Boğaziçi University (2010) and a BA in History from Istanbul Bilgi University (2005). Her research interests center around Ottoman-Greek relations, fortresses, borders, and migration flows in Southeast Europe.

Dilek Ozkan Pantazis will work with Nikolas Bakirtzis in the project SEABORD. SEABORD explores the making of frontier fortress-towns across the Eastern Mediterranean under Ottoman rule, focusing on sites in the Peloponnese, Crete and Cyprus and combining archival work, site visits, and digital technologies to map and visualize the development of Ottoman land and sea borders. The project aims to address a societal challenge resulting from the lack of systematic research on such monuments during the Ottoman rule in Greece and elsewhere in Europe.
