Europe’s leading organisations that represent research managers have welcomed the award of €1.5m from the Horizon Europe programme, to fund an unprecedented co-creation process that aims to define the future of the profession.

 

The RM-ROADMAP project will be led by the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA), in collaboration with key network organisations, institutes and research-active companies in Hungary, Cyprus, Ireland, Portugal, Netherlands and Belgium.

 

The overarching objective of RM Roadmap is to identify and adapt the research management capital base of the EU, including the widening countries, and emerging needs of its current and future research management workforce to improve the EU’s competitiveness and sustain its economic performance. RM Roadmap will allow existing European networks to connect on a smart community platform which will enable an unprecedented consultation process in research management in the world. This co-creation process will gather the existing communities and expand upon them to reach two main objectives - To create and inform a bottom-up consensus on the future of RM in a roadmap, and to inform the community about existing training, networking, funding, and career mobility opportunities.

 

Eight partners are working together on this exciting project: European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (Belgium); HETFA Research Institute (Hungary); Nova University Lisbon (Portugal); Association of European Science & Technology Transfer Professionals (Netherlands); Crowdhelix Limited (Ireland), The Cyprus Institute (Cyprus) and associated partners Janssen Pharmaceuticals (J&J) and Una Europa (Belgium).

 

Through the RM Roadmap project, the Cyprus Institute (CyI), is spearheading efforts for advancing research management capacities and resources at the national level for the benefit of Cyprus’ wider research & innovation ecosystem.  Within the organization, the project is led by the Cyprus Institute’s Vice President of Operations Dr. Michalis Yiangou, who is CyI’s Principal Investigator. CyI is engaged across all project activities, with specific responsibilities in leading Task 2.4 for the formation of the RM community incubator: Fostering national and thematic communities (in Widening countries) including research infrastructures and identifying and advising communities and countries which are less developed in Research Management (RM) on next steps for community building. CyI also leads Task 3.2 Advocacy and Mobilization of Stakeholders Strategy, through which stakeholders and experts with an interest to contribute in the different activities of the project will be identified and grouped in thematic groups where stakeholders will act as consultants for the overall roadmap and recognition of RM profession.
